セクイムはポートタウンゼンドの西に位置し、オリンピック山脈の山あいにある小さな町。年間降雨量はわずか15インチで、およそ300日の日照日を誇る、シアトル周辺が雨季の際に太陽を一目見たいという人たちに人気のスポット。
人口は5,000人と少ないが、近年はその気候を好む人々が隠居する場所として人口が急増し、町並みも発展してきている。
また、ここはハリウッドスターの隠れた別荘地として知る人ぞ知る存在。西部劇の大スターだったジョン・ウェインが丘から海まで続く広大な敷地を別荘として持っていたのは今でもこの地に住む人々の思い出話に出てくる。現在もニコール・キッドマンやバーバラ・ストライザーが別荘を持っており、ダウンタウンのレストランで食事をしていることもある。兵庫県宍粟市の姉妹都市。
・セクイム ラベンダー・フェスティバル（Sequim Lavender Festival）
セクイムはラベンダーの産地として有名。ラベンダー・フェスティバルは毎年7月中旬に開催され、州内外、また国外からも観光客が訪れるセクイムの一大イベント。セクイムは北アメリカ最大のラベンダー栽培量を誇る。年間降雨量わずか15インチというフランスのプロヴァンス地方に似た気候を生かし、200年以上も前からラベンダー栽培やラベンダー関連商品の製造を行っている。フェスティバルではラベンダーで作られた商品を並べた屋台などが立ち並び、花やそのエキスで作られた石鹸やシャンプーなど様々な商品が販売される。
・オリンピック・ゲーム・ファーム（Olympic Game Farm）
セクイムにあるサファリ・パーク。映画やテレビに出演した動物たちを引き取ったのがそもそもの始まり。自分の車またはガイドつきの徒歩ツアー（夏季限定）があり、ノースウェストに住む動物以外の動物や、2003年に公開されたディズニー映画『Brother Bear（ブラザー・ベア）』のモデルにもなったノースウェストのグリズリー熊などを間近で見ることができる。車の窓からバイソンにエサをあげることもできる。子供から大人まで1年中楽しめるスポット。
・ダンジネス・スピット＆ダンジネス国立自然保護区域（Dungeness Spit & Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge）
米国最長の自然砂でできた長さ5.5マイル（約8.8キロ）の砂塵（Spit）では、野生動物や野鳥が見られる自然の宝庫。毎年15フィート（約45メートル）ずつ伸びる砂塵の先端にある灯台〝The New Dungeness Lighthouse”は1746年に建てられたもので、駐車場からこの灯台までは片道5マイル（約8キロ）の散歩道になっている。晴れた日はバンクーバー島やあざらしなどの海洋生物、鹿の群れなどを見ることができるなど、自然を満喫したい人にとっては絶好の観光スポット。
自然保護区域内ではハイキング、ピクニック、野生動物の観察、ボート、クラム捕り、釣り、乗馬などのアクティビティも楽しめる。
姉妹都市交流
セクイムは1993年6月より兵庫県宍粟市（旧山崎町）と姉妹都市交流を続けている。
地元の中高生の交換プログラムや、市内には宍粟市姉妹都市フレンドシップガーデンがあるなど、盛んに文化交流が行われている。

Sequim is a small city located on Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula, between the deep waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Mountains. It lies within the “rain shadow” of the Olympic Mountains, which protects the valley from the rain that falls east and west of Sequim, and therefore it receives an average of less than 15 inches of rain per year. In Sequim, the sun shines more than anywhere else in western Washington, about 300 days a year. The population was 4,334 at the 2000 census, but it has been increasing dramatically in recent years, attracting many retirees who enjoy the pleasant weather.
Sequim is the center of the North Olympic Peninsula, just minutes from the Victorian Seaport of Port Townsend and Port Angeles, the gateway to Victoria, British Columbia and Olympic National Park. Located close to Olympic National Forest, Sequim is conveniently situated to be your vacation destination.
The city and the surrounding area are particularly known for their production of lavender, as the unique climate allows a commercial growth industry that is only rivaled in France. The area is also known for its Dungeness crab. Farming is also practiced in the Sequim Dungeness Valley. Because of its unique weather, the temperature in the region is perfect with only an approximate 20 degree variation between night and day. This allows the flower or plant to maintain optimum growing temperature 24 hours a day because it does not experience the low temperature shock when the sun goes down. The growing Valley agri-tourism business provides ample opportunity for the traveler to enjoy flowers and a variety of raspberries, strawberries, lavender, and flower bulbs.

Visitors from all 50 states and over 55 countries have come to experience this event that features Northwest crafts, Olympic Coast cuisine, live music, lavender workshops and demonstrations, and the area’s famous lavender. The Sequim-Dungeness Valley has an ideal microclimate for growing lavender. With its dry weather, the area is similar to the Provence region of France where this amazing herb is native. Because of the unique conditions and dedicated farmers, Sequim lavender has received national recognition for its superior quality. Our farmers have over 200 years of combined experience cultivating lavender, determining ideal varieties, developing the best planting and growing practices, and creating lavender products.
