シアトルから約480キロ離れたワシントン州東南部の町。東にアイダホ州、南にオレゴン州が間近にある。ここの気候は典型的な砂漠型で、 夏は乾燥していて暑く冬は湿潤で寒い。冬場は雨よりも雪が多い。周辺は肥沃な土地に恵まれており、冬小麦、春小麦、大麦、レンズ豆、え
んどう豆などの農業が盛ん。また近年では市の北側に工業団地が形成されるなど、ハイテク産業も発展しつつある。
ワシントン州立大学（WSU）がメインキャンパスを構える大学町として有名。WSUは州内でも有数の総合四年制大学で、全国からたくさんの生 徒を受け入れている。また約80カ国を超える世界中の国々からの留学生も受け入れており、日本人も多く在籍している。専攻は250種類以上
もあり、特に獣医学、工学、農学、薬学、コミュニケーションの分野で高い評価を得ている。
プルマンの人口は約27,000人だが、WSUへ通う学生が多く住んでいるだめ、18-24歳の年齢層が人口の約半数を占める。兵庫県加西市の姉妹都
市。
ワシントン州立大学（WSU）
WSUのキャンパス内にはいくつものミュージアムやアートギャラリーがあり、一般にも開放されている。ビーズリー演技芸術コロシアム
（Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum）や美術館もあり、プルマンの文化の中心となっている。
また、同校はスポーツが盛んでパシフィック・テン・カンファレンス（PAC10）に所属しており、男女あらゆる競技でリーグに参加している 。
WSUのマスコットはクーガーで、シアトルにあるワシントン大学（UW）のマスコットのハスキーの強力なライバルである。アメリカンフッ トボールなどスポーツの試合では毎年のように熱戦を繰り広げている。毎年11月に行われるフットボールのシーズン最終戦（アップル・カッ プ）ではWSUとUWが対戦する。WSUはフットボールやバスケットボールの試合など様々なスポーツイベントを開催しており、スポーツ観戦が好 きな人にはぴったりの観光スポット。
プルマンでは他にも、ボート、ラフティング、カヌー、カヤック、釣り（サーモン、トラウト、バス、パーチ、ニジマス、チョウザメなど） 、ハンティング（鳥、鹿、ヘラジカ、熊、クーガーなど）、ハイキング、キャンピング、マウンテンバイキングなど様々なアウトドアアクテ

ナショナル・レンティルフェスティバル（National Lentil Festival）
1989年に始まり毎年８月に行われる、レンズ豆の収穫祭。プルマンのあるパロウズ地方では全米で収穫されるレンズ豆の3分の1を栽培してお り、それを祝って開催される。
姉妹都市交流：
プルマンは1989年11月から兵庫県加西市と姉妹都市提携を結んでいる。プルマンと加西市は農業の面で、また大学町という点でも似ているこ とから、企業家や生徒同士の交流・交換プログラムが盛んに行われている。
今年の3月にも加西市の中学生、高校生がプルマンに滞在し、地元のファミリーにホームステイするなど交流を深めている。

With its historical roots in agriculture, Pullman has matured into a community
with small-town comforts and cosmopolitan amenities. Home to world class

The City of Pullman has an estimated 2006 population of 26,590 and is built
upon 4 major hills with main traffic arterials in the valleys. Pullman
is located in Whitman County between Lewiston, Idaho (30 minutes to the
south), Spokane, WA (90 minutes to the north), and Moscow, Idaho (10 minutes
to the east) on the rolling hills of the Palouse. The City is home to Washington
State University (WSU), and nearby Moscow is home of the University of
Idaho (U of I). Unlike the Washington coast, Pullman tends to be fairly
dry and historically has been a pea and lentil farming area. As much of
the population is undergraduate students, the population drops dramatically
during the summer months. WSU operates Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum
which offers sports and entertainment second to none. The Palouse Discovery
Science Center hosts hundreds of school field trips every year and boasts
the membership of hundreds of families in and around the quad-cities area.

Museums:
The Worthman Vaterinary Anatomy Teaching Museum, located on the WSU campus at 270 Wegner Hall, is open Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.
The museum features several hundred dried and skeletal preparations of
large and small domestic animals and selected specimens of birds and wild
species. The only one of its kind in the nation, it provides a unique learning

Conner Museum: located on the WSU campus in Abelson Hall, is open 7 days a week from 8am to 5pm except university holidays.
The museum contains the largest public collection of birds and mammals
in the Pacific Northwest and includes mounted moose,caribou, bison, deer,
antelope, bighorn sheep, cougars, and more than 700 other species, including
a dinosaur skeleton. For

WSU Museum of Anthropology: has interpretive exhibits, including the fossil
record of human evolution and exhibits on cultural similarities and differences
