シアトルの隣町ケントは、アメリカで３番目に大きな工業地帯を形成しており、多くの日系企業が集積している。またここはアマチュアスイ ングバンドとして有名な、キングス・オブ・スイングのホームグラウンド。
しかし初め、ケントは農業地域として始まった。1878年に初めて植えられたホップが主な作物でケントの急速な成長を導いた。1888年には約 100万ポンドの収穫があった。1917年にトラックが取り入れられ、20年代に入るとケントは‘世界のレタス地域’として知られるようになっ
た。
毎年あるグリーン川とホワイト川の洪水がケント谷の肥沃な農業に貢献しているが、1906年の大洪水の際、谷は巨大な湖になり、いくつ かの家では2フィートの高さまで水が浸水した。ホワイト川は新たにピュアラップ川に水路を代えたので、現在では洪水は緩和された。
１０年後、ケントはキングカントリー政府により銀行業の中心地方になる予定。さらには国際貿易の中心地に。この変化によってケントは様 々な仕事の機会を提供し、人口は現在の86,660から数年後には100,000に増える予定となっている。

Kent Farmers Market （Jun.-Sep.）
毎年“ケント豊作デイ”の一環としてケントファーマーズマーケットが開かれている。この祭りは6月から9月まで続き、その中でもケントフ ァーマーズマーケットは長く開催される

The City of Kent is the fourth largest city in King County, with a culturally rich population of 86,660. It covers a
geographic area of 29 square miles. Kent's population is projected to grow to 100,000 within the next few years!
During the next ten years, Kent will become a regional banking center; have the largest concentration of King County
governmental services outside of Seattle; and become the focal point for international commerce. During this transitional
phase and thereafter, the City of Kent will offer a wide range of employment opportunities.
Kent began as an agricultural area. Hops were the first major crop (first planted in 1878), leading to the rapid growth of
Kent in its early years. Almost a million pounds of hops were harvested in 1888. Truck farming began in 1917, and during the
1920s, Kent became known as the "lettuce capital of the world."
Annual floods of the Green and White rivers contributed to the agricultural fertility of the Kent valley. During the Great
Flood of 1906, the valley turned into a giant lake, as flood waters rose up to two feet in some houses. The White River found
a new channel into the Puyallup River, thus alleviating some of the flooding
in Kent..
Lions Street Fair
The hallmark of our Festival. Walk through this huge street fair with over 600 vendors from around the country featuring
great food, handcrafted items, and commercial vendors. Named in honor of Kent Lion Wayne Hobbs, now deceased, for all the
years of work establishing this event.
Kent Farmers Market (Jun.-Sep.)
Every year as part of Kent Cornucopia Days we include our very own Kent Farmers Market as part of the Festival. This event
which runs from June through September is a long standing part of our Festival.
