ワシントン州の中北部に位置するシェランは山と湖に囲まれた静かな町。人口は約4,000人ほど。町の中心は雪解け水を豊かにたたえるシェラン湖の南端に位置し、ここからはじまる全長80キロメートルに及ぶシェラン湖ボートツアーには、夏場、多くの人が訪れる。東条湖を持つ町の縁から、兵庫県加東市の姉妹都市となっている。
ノース・カスケード国立公園に隣接するシェラン湖は、南北の長さが約55マイル（約88km）という細長い湖。27の氷河と57の小川が流れ込む天然湖で、最大水深は約1,500フィート（約450m）と、アメリカ国内で3番目の深さを誇る。シェラン湖はリゾート地として人気があり、特にシェランのある南岸は1年の晴天日が平均300日ということもあり、日光浴や水泳、釣りなどを楽しもうとする観光客が各地から多く訪れる。またシェランはウォーター・スポーツのメッカでもあり、ウィンド・サーフィンやジェット・スキーも楽しめる、スポーツ好きの人にはもってこいのスポット。
• レディー・オブ・ザ・レイク：シェラン湖の南北を結ぶクルーズ。片道約1時間半で、晴れた日の方がおすすめ。”Lady of the Lake”に乗船すると、標高8,000フィートに及ぶ山々を眺めながら、ステヒーカン（Stehekin）という人口約70人の小さな村落がある湖北岸に到着する。ステヒーカンとはネイティブ・アメリカンの言葉で "The Way Through"という意味で、彼らはここを通ってパシフィック・コーストの部族らと貿易をしていたそう。このステヒーカンは、シェラン国立レクリエーション地域に含まれているが、この遊覧船を含むボートか水上飛行機でないと到達できないため、大自然に囲まれた過疎地でのキャンプやハイキングを楽しむ人たちが滞在するところとなっている。
• シェラン・エアウェイズ：シェラン湖とカスケード山脈上空を飛ぶ水上飛行機。ステヒーカンまでは片道約45分で、上空からシェラン湖の美しい景色を眺めることができる。
• コロンビア・カスケード・ワイン＆ワイナリー
春から夏にかけて予約をすればツアーを構成してくれる。自分でワイナリーをめぐることもできる。
• バンジョー・クリーク・ファーム
シェラン市から約15マイルのところにある農場。カウボーイBBQディナーや日曜市（5～10月）、50頭以上の動物と触れ合えるファームなどが楽しめる家族向けのスポット。
• スライドウォーターズ
8種類のウォータースライドやホットタブ、バレーボールやピクニックができる公園などがあり、カップルでも家族でも楽しめる。

Chelan – Kato (Tojo) from Nov. 1996
is a city in Chelan County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,522 at the 2000 census. It sits on the southeast tip of Lake Chelan, where the lake flows into the Chelan River.
Chelan is a scenic resort community of 3,800 residents nestled at the edge of the Cascade Mountains on the shore of beautiful Lake Chelan in North Central Washington. The Lake Chelan Valley features extraordinary year-around recreational opportunities in a world class outdoor environment. The Lake Chelan Valley sits in central Washington State, nestled in the North Cascades National Forest. The Chelan Valley encompasses the communities of Chelan, Manson & Stehekin. This pristine, 50.5 mile glacier-fed lake is 1.5 miles at its widest and 1486 ft. at its deepest point. The population of the valley consists of 10,000 year-round residents and several hundred more part-time residents.
Roads extend less than halfway to the headwaters of Lake Chelan. Beyond the end of the road, rugged snowcapped peaks rise over 7,000 feet from the lakeshore. Dark evergreens cover the mountainsides. Deep valleys rise from the lake to massive glaciers in the heart of the North Cascades. At the upper end of Lake Chelan, limited, local roads do not connect the communities of Stehekin and Holden Village to the outside world.
This remoteness and the spectacular setting have inspired Federal protection for much of the region. Portions of a National Park, two National Forest Wilderness Areas, and a National Recreation Area encompass much of the Chelan drainage. From the apple orchards down lake to the alpine firs and glaciers of the Cascade Crest, the Lake Chelan area offers an unparalleled variety of scenic and recreational experiences. The park offers 127 standard sites, 17 utility sites, 4 comfort stations, 52 picnic sites, a picnic shelter, playground equipment, bathhouse, 300 linear feet of beach, boat launch and dock, water ski floats, 2 residences, garage, homestead cabin, contact station, trailer dump.
