“Report From Washington State” 45 Years of Sister State relations between Hyogo Prefecture & Washington State
On Thursday June 12th at 1pm Japanese time (9pm Pacific Standard Time, Wednesday June 11th), a live webcast presentation between the Hyogo Business & Cultural Center and the Kobe Rotary club was conducted by HBCC director Ginn Kitaoka.
The presentation was to commemorate both the 45th anniversary of sister state relations between Hyogo Prefecture & Washington State and the 40th anniversary of relations between the Rotary Clubs in Seattle and Kobe. Executive secretary Douman’s opening remarks and introduction kicked off the presentation on the Hyogo side, with video greetings coming from the governor of Washington State Christine Gregoire starting things on the Washington side. HBCC director Kitaoka then outlined some of the activities that the office has been organizing to commemorate the anniversary through a powerpoint presentation. After that, director Maruo of Kobe children’s hospital and former director Nakamura had an opinion exchange on the activities between Seattle Children’s and Kobe Children’s hospitals. This kind of trial was a first since the establishment of the Kobe Rotary club, and received a big reaction from the members.
The trial run this time will be used by high school students and their host families in Sequim and Shiso cities to talk to each other in an event held this October, and it is hoped that more connections can be made between the people of Washington and Hyogo in this manner.

「ワシントン州からのレポート」　兵庫県-ワシントン州姉妹提携45周年記念
日本時間の6月12日（木）午後1時（ＰＳＴでは１１日（水）の午後９時）に行われた神戸ロータリークラブの例会で、兵庫県ワシントン州事務所の北岡所長が、神戸ポートピアホテルの会場とシアトルの兵庫県ワシントン州事務所をインターネットで結び、ライブプレゼンテーションを行いました。
これは兵庫県とワシントン州の姉妹提携４５周年及び神戸ロータリークラブとシアトルロータリークラブ姉妹提携４０周年を記念して実施されたものです。神戸側会場での道満幹事の挨拶と紹介をプレゼンテーションに先立ち、クリスティン･グレゴア　ワシントン州知事からビデオ挨拶があり、続いて、北岡所長（Ginn Kitaoka）が、HBCCが行っている活動のいくつかをPower Pointプレゼンテーションしました。その後、神戸の会場から神戸こども病院の中村前院長や丸尾院長とシアトルこども病院との交流について若干の意見交換を行いました。また、当日会場には、北岡所長の中学から大学までともに過ごした友人が出席していて、わずかな時間でしたが、旧交を温めました。このような試みは神戸ロータリークラブ設立以来初めてのもので、会員からは大きな反響がありました。
今回試みたこの方法で、セクイムと宍粟市を結んで高校生たちやホストファミリーたちが直接語り合うイベントを10月に行う計画をしているなど、今後、ワシントン州と兵庫県の人々がいっそう身近に接することに活用していく予定です。
